First affordable zero-carbon homes provide Green Space for residents

The most environmentally friendly affordable family homes in have been launched by us - doubling the number of zero-carbon schemes in the country.

The Green Space scheme, in Mendip Road, Chelmsford, Essex, has been awarded a level-six Code for Sustainable Homes* rating – the highest possible – by the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Built in partnership with contractor McCann Homes, local authority Chelmsford Borough Council, development agent Flagship Housing Group, the Homes and Communities Agency, chartered surveyors Oxbury and Company and architects Ingleton Wood; CHP’s Green Space offers ten properties - four one-bedroom apartments and six two and three-bedroom homes - for social rent.

Having regenerated one of our garage sites; residents can enjoy an eco-friendly way of life, reduced energy costs and a fully sustainable living style.

Martin Dean, CHP Chairman, said: “We are delighted that our zero-carbon scheme has been awarded the highest rating possible. All of the properties are built to a very high standard to ensure that running costs are as low as possible for our residents.
