Jordan's Week @CHP

Last week I had the opportunity to talk to the new Chair of CHP’s Board of Trustees. I was very interested to find out more about the role because I was uncertain about what responsibilities would come with the position. I was also quite nervous about this meeting because it is a well-respected position within the company and it was my first time meeting him.

From this meeting I learnt that the board is in place to have a final say about any major change or movement that happens within the company. They also have to take full responsibility for the outcome of these changes. The chair of the board is there to maintain the board itself and to make sure that every move that the company makes is legal and done correctly.

When I was with the chair I was intrigued as to what it was that made him interested in becoming a member of the board. He explained to me that he started out as a local authority councillor and was also the chairman of Governors at his daughters’ school. It was this role gave him a greater interest in politics which eventually led him to becoming the chair at CHP. He also told me that another reason of becoming the chair was because he wanted to better people’s way of living. In his eyes he believes that a home is something that everyone needs and he wants people to enjoy their home as much as possible. Hearing this made me very proud to be part of a company with someone that’s so passionate about contributing to making a better life for people.

Another less exciting, but equally important task has been collecting data from tenants about their transfer applications. Sadly this isn’t the most thrilling task, but it’s definitely a job that’s made me more aware of all the different software we use and how to use them effectively.

I’ve also been given my first college assignment to complete recently, so there’s been a lot of reading and familiarising myself with the assignment brief. I am looking forward to getting back into studying after taking a year break from it. I’m actually excited to get my head down and start working on my assignments!

Overall it’s been another great week at CHP and I am looking forward to see what’s in store over the coming weeks.
