Sheltered housing
We have several sheltered schemes in Essex . This type of housing could suit you if you want to live independently but need more support, or if you want to live in a home that’s easier to manage. Our sheltered schemes are only available to people over the age of 60, or over 50 if you’re receiving disability benefit (or Personal Independence Payment).
Common features of our sheltered schemes include:
- 24-hour emergency help through an alarm system;
- communal areas such as gardens or lounges;
- social activities for residents;
- being close to local amenities including shops, supermarkets and pharmacies.
If you’re already one of our customers and live in a property that’s too large for your needs, you may be able to apply for our SpaceSaver scheme. This offers financial incentives if you move to a smaller home, including into sheltered housing. For more information, please see our guide to downsizing your home and the rewards you receive.
You can search for homes currently available in our sheltered schemes by visiting the New home section of our website or on the HomeOption website and magazine. Our homes are allocated to people using the Choice Based Lettings scheme, which means that when you express an interest in a property you like it must be suitable to your needs. For more information on how to do this, see the HomeOption website or contact us. You can also contact your local council for further information.
