Extending your lease
If you’ve been a leaseholder of your home for more than two years, you have the right to extend your lease, subject to meeting the criteria. There will be fees associated with this.
There are two ways to extend your lease:
- by making a formal application under the Leasehold Reform, Housing and Urban Development Act 1993;
- or by agreement with us.
Please note, if you’re a shared ownership customer, you’re only able to extend your lease by agreement with us. This is because you don’t have the statutory right to extend under the Leasehold Reform, Housing and Urban Development Act 1993.
For more information and impartial advice please see the Lease Advice website. You’ll find a lease extension calculator you can use to get a guide price and a template you can use to enquire about an extension. You can also contact us for advice by emailing mb-leasehold.servicesmailbox@chp.org.uk or calling 0300 555 0500. (Text relay: 18001 0300 555 0500).
